Bryan Bresee 2023 NFL Draft Profile

Bryan Bresee was the nation’s top recruit in the 2020 class and ended up signing with Clemson. He started 10 games his freshman year, recording four sacks and 6.5 tackles-for-loss. A torn ACL in 2021 derailed his sophomore year, but he came back to earn second-team All-ACC (in 10 games) in 2022. Bresee wowed at the NFL Scouting Combine, but where does he rank among the DTs in this NFL Draft class? Let’s talk about it.

Before the season started, I had Bryan Bresee as a sleeper for going first overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. I’ve been a fan since the 2021 season.

As I mentioned above, he had a killer combine. Trey noted that he was a stud in the bag drill. Bresee’s footwork was on point. His hips were on full display as well. He showed off a great spin more as well, which he links a clip to in the article. Bresee also ran a great 40 time at 4.86 with a 1.71 split. Those are great numbers.

Bryan Bresee has tools that NFL teams are looking for in spades. He takes on double teams with pleasure. Always finds a way to keep his gap tight. While he was at Clemson, Bresee showed he could stop the run and get after the quarterback. His hands get a big plus as well.

The college production might scare off some teams, but it shouldn’t. He showed at the combine that he has the tools. If Bresee can stay healthy, he should develop into a plus starter in the NFL early and stay there for a while.

Unfortunately, health plays a big factor when scouting Bryan Bresee. He suffered a torn ACL and needed shoulder surgery during his time at Clemson. Not ideal. But he is only 21-years-old, so he still has all the time in the world. He lacks premier range when tackling. As I mentioned above, his college production is lacking, which some teams might make note of. Bresee is still learning rush moves, so right now his move tree is fairly limited.

I have a first-round grade on Bryan Bresee. I could easily see a team in the back half of the first round using their pick on him. He’s so young with so much talent to him. Bresee going to a team with a good vet to learn from would do him wonders. I can’t really see a scenario where he falls out of the first round, and if he did, that would be a mistake.
